Who are you and what is your research topic?

My name is Dina Al-Kharabsheh. I am an engineer and researcher at the Technical University of Braunschweig, working at the intersection of education and technology. My research focuses on developing and evaluating innovative STEM outreach programs, with particular emphasis on fostering diversity in STEM fields. I explore how initiatives like the changING program can positively impact students' self-efficacy and interest in STEM, especially among female students.

Which research question are you working on?

I am exploring how structured, hands-on STEM outreach programs can enhance interest and self-efficacy in STEM for high school students. My work particularly investigates effective strategies for engaging young women and students from diverse backgrounds, aiming to understand the impact of programs like changING on their STEM aspirations.

What inspires you about your research?

I am inspired by the transformative impact of tailored educational experiences on students, especially those who might not initially see themselves represented in STEM fields. Witnessing students grow in confidence and curiosity through practical, real-world applications is incredibly motivating, and I am driven by the goal of making STEM more inclusive and accessible.

Why is your topic relevant to the future of aviation?

Fostering a diverse and well-prepared talent pipeline is essential to aviation’s future, particularly for tackling sustainability challenges. By focusing on early education, my work supports the development of problem-solvers who bring unique perspectives to aviation’s complex issues, such as sustainable and energy-efficient design.

What is special about participating in the interdisciplinary research network SE²A?
