Artificial intelligence is considered one of the key technologies of the future. For this reason, the subject of artificial intelligence is to be more firmly established in teaching and continuing education at universities and colleges. To this end, the Technical University of Braunschweig is developing digital course offerings as part of a joint project in collaboration with Clausthal University of Technology and Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences. The project is being funded for four years as part of the federal-state funding initiative “Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education.”
This is precisely where the collaborative project KI4ALL comes in. "We will begin by conducting a situational analysis and compiling a cross-campus directory of AI-related courses. The term 'AI' is very broad, encompassing a variety of methods applied across diverse disciplinary contexts. This disciplinary diversity was also the driving force behind our research proposal: On the one hand—with the aim of fostering AI literacy—we intend to jointly develop foundational educational offerings designed to equip all target groups with the necessary competence in this field. On the other hand, the individual campuses possess distinct research specializations; we seek to bolster the future viability of these areas by strategically integrating discipline-specific AI methods into both academic curricula and continuing education programs," explains Junior Professor Henning Wessels—Professor of Data-Driven Modeling of Mechanical Systems—regarding the project's methodological approach.
KI4ALL consolidates AI expertise within our region. Through the establishment of an AI hub, the three university locations gain the opportunity to network with one another. In this context, educational content covering current application and research areas of artificial intelligence is digitally created and made available for teaching and learning purposes. However, this content is not intended solely for students; by publishing it as Open Educational Resources (OER), all interested parties are given the opportunity to enhance their AI competencies. In addition to AI education and professional development, regional exchange on the subject is fostered and strengthened through interdisciplinary events and networking formats.
