Bioactive Plant Compounds

Bioactive compounds from plants are the main subject of research at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Biology. Analytical, biochemical and molecular biology techniques are used to characterize pathways of plant secondary metabolism and to make them amenable for the production of bioactive compounds by means of biotechnology. In the context of the evolutionary recruitment and optimization of these pathways, research at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Biology also addresses the question which roles bioactive plant compounds play as defense and signalling compounds in interactions between plants and insect herbivores.
