The general research topics at the pharmaceutical institutes can be summarized by the focus areas "Bioactive molecules" and "Pharmaceutical formulation and process development". Main research topics are:

  • Elucidation of mechanisms of action of drugs in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases as well as diabetes through visualization of signal transduction processes
  • Biotechnology and evolution of plant natural products (bioactive plant compounds)
  • Drug development and analytics: rational drug design, development and optimization of low-molecular-weight compounds, instrumental pharmaceutical analytics in quality control and validation
  • Colloidal drug delivery systems / Release and transport through epithelial barriers
  • Historical research on bioactive substances (hormones, enzymes, vitamins) and on early patent legislation, history of hazardous substances (poisons, food additives, radioactive substances), Gender Studies of Science (history of sciences)

Please visit the homepages of the individual institutes through the above links for more detailed information.

Research groups from all pharmaceutical institutes collaborate with scientists from the Department of Engineering of TU Braunschweig in the newly founded Center of Pharmaceutical Engineering (PVZ).
