Here you will find the current sports program for the summer semester 2025 with a varied range of online, outdoor and indoor courses.
The outdoor facility is open and usable on Fridays from 07:00 through the administration building and on Saturdays and Sundays from 09:00 only via the Beethovenstraße entrance. Showers and changing rooms are only available in the Beethovenstraße sports hall at weekends.
The tartan track can be slippery in places. We therefore ask you to be particularly careful when using it.
The cross-country course is currently closed. You can use all areas marked in green. You will need the outdoor sports card to use the outdoor sports facilities.
By winning the preliminary round at their home venue in Beethovenstraße in May, the TU Braunschweig volleyball team qualified for the final round of the German University Championship in Karlsruhe for the first time in a very long time. In addition to the host WG Karlsruhe as defending champions, the three other winners of the preliminary round from Constance, Rostock and Erlangen-Nuremberg took part, as well as the university team from Darmstadt due to Dortmund's withdrawal. After the (surprisingly problem-free) train journey of the 9-team delegation on Friday, the famous castle of the fan-shaped city of Karlsruhe was visited and the first information on the tournament schedule was collected. On Saturday, the first match of the university championships was played immediately after the opening ceremony. TU Braunschweig won the match 2:0 against the Bavarian representative Erlangen/Nuremberg after a surprisingly confident first set and a second set that was saved over the finish line. This meant that the minimum goal set beforehand of “not going down, maybe winning a set or a game” had already been achieved, but it did nothing to dampen motivation. The aim now was to qualify for the semi-finals. To avoid having to tremble, a set win in the second group match against Darmstadt was necessary. This was a long way off after a relatively clear set loss, but thanks to a significant improvement and a lot of fighting, the second set was won and the semi-final ticket was booked. This meant that the group win was decided in a tie-break, where Darmstadt prevailed with several second division players.
The other group of three, which was much stronger for TU Braunschweig due to the luck of the draw, had a big surprise in store. The hosts from Karlsruhe, defending champions after all and with several top-class Bundesliga players, finished last in the group and were therefore eliminated early. First place went to the University of Rostock, last year's European university champions, and thus their semi-final opponents. With realistic expectations (of no chance), but a lot of fun and enough playing time for all the players who had traveled with them, they kept up well, especially in the first set, but in the end this did not change the clear victory of the Rostock team. The team, consisting mainly of second division champions from Warnemünde, thus underlined their role as co-favorites. The successful Saturday was deservedly celebrated with good food and a sports party.
Sunday saw a re-match against Darmstadt, who had also lost the semi-final against Konstanz. The chance of a podium finish and possible participation in the next European Championships drew out the last reserves in everyone. However, Darmstadt, boosted by the short overnight journey with fresh and rested players, were a size too big on this day. In the end, Braunschweig came fourth out of the best universities in Germany. The winner was the University of Rostock ahead of Constance, while 5th place went to the hosts from Karlsruhe.
It was a very successful weekend for everyone involved and an honor to represent the TU Braunschweig. To be in 4th place in the whole of Germany, ahead of teams that had coaches, Bundesliga players and longer preparation, was not to be expected. Many thanks to the KIT for the smooth organization and the successful event! Thanks also to the sports center of the TU Braunschweig, especially Michael Landes, who made the sporting qualification possible with his commitment in the preliminary round. Thanks to the sports department, which provided advice and assistance with arrival and departure and made our participation possible both organizationally and financially.

Once upon a time, 6 teams wanted to compete in volleyball. The university championship offered the perfect opportunity - the event that brings together the daring elite of the TU volleyball community once a year. Even the most fervent beach volleyball players, who are usually only found on the sand, dared to take to the hard indoor floor for this event.
After an extensive warm-up phase and a few inspiring introductory words, the matches started surprisingly punctually. All the teams were highly motivated. In the preliminary round, everyone played one set against each other - so there was little room for serious mistakes. Right from the start, it was clear that the duels between the teams were at eye level. The crowds of spectators, who did not want to miss this event despite the great weather outside, were offered exciting matches that were hard-fought right up to the last point. After the preliminary round, it was time for the last places to keep their heads up. Thanks to the organizers' ingenious game system, all teams were still able to reach the final. A wise procedure that proved to be very rewarding for some teams.
However, before the knockout phase began, the players also left the pitches for a while with heavy hearts to enjoy the spring sunshine. During an extensive lunch break in front of the hall, the teams regained their strength and consulted with each other one last time. In the following matches, the teams had to decide two sets for themselves. So they had to summon up all their strength once again. The points became even more hard-fought. Previously unimagined skills were revealed to one or other team, so that 4th and 5th place in the preliminary round were able to turn the table around and meet in the final. Unfortunately, the final was postponed due to a lengthy injury break, which is why two teams were able to stand on the first podium at the end of the tournament day. Congratulations to two teams who shared first place. “I finally got to take part in one of the legendary volleyball events!” said Lena, one of the participants
Overall, the atmosphere at the tournament was at least as good as the standard of play. Even though everyone left the hall after 8 hours with aching limbs, the good mood was reflected in every face.
And if they haven't died, then they are still competing today... probably on an equal footing.

The university championship in hybrid field hockey took place for the first time on Saturday, February 8th. Around a dozen interested people tried their hand at this relatively unknown field hockey sport, which originated here in the region. The games lasted two times 10 minutes. Three outfield players and a goalkeeper faced each other on each side. The games were played on the basketball court. After a few games to familiarize themselves with the rules, the players got down to business. In the final game, the Braunschweig Penguins faced the Orcas, in which the Penguins put in a poor defensive performance in the first half and consequently conceded four goals. The Orcas were convincing here with beautifully played goals.
In the second half, the Penguins pursued a more defensive strategy despite the deficit and tried to fight their way back into the game with individual forays. This was rewarded with a goal, but in the end it was not enough and the Orcas became the deserved first title winners with a 5 to 1 victory.
Both teams included participants from the hybrid hockey course at TU Braunschweig. This takes place on Fridays from 8 to 9:30 p.m. and welcomes new faces. Hybrid field hockey is essentially based on floorball, but is a mixture of different types of field hockey. Hence the name hybrid! ;)

A whole night to really let off steam. That's exactly what was possible last Friday on November 29, 2024 in the Beethoven sports hall - a long night of volleyball was the order of the day. Pitching, digging, digging in, as much as the arms and legs could take. From 9 p.m. in the evening until 4 a.m. the next morning, the games were played in mixed teams. Participants could register at the beginning as a duo or as an individual. The question of the evening was then: who could win the most games? Even though the focus was on having fun on and off the court, everyone did their best to win the respective games. After 7 hours, the duo and the individual with the most victories were rewarded with a chocolate advent calendar - coming early and staying late was an advantage.
It was also a successful event apart from the sporting side of things. As always, there was a well-balanced, bakery-heavy buffet with all kinds of homemade specialties. Once again, many thanks to all the amateur bakers. Drinks were also provided in sufficient quantities. New this year, the 8-stamp card was a real bestseller. “Collecting wins was also nice, but it was much cooler to have every stamp motif on my drinks menu at the end,” said one enthusiastic participant.
This event was as round as volleyball itself. Everyone was as happy as the net was high. And the smiles of all participants as they left the hall were as wide as the 52nd parallel on which they played. Take care and see you at the next LaVoNa
Here are the other comments on the night:
Phillip: “I'm actually a beacher and was a bit skeptical at first, but the knotless atmosphere was really special.”
Johanna: “Everyone kept wanting to go back to the field and never actually took a break. I stayed until the end.”
Jannis: “The sumptuous buffet played its part in my stamina”
Laureen and Lena: “Shoot - we only heard all the great stories, next time we'll definitely be there!

On Tuesday, October 29, 2024, the Beethovenstraße sports hall became the venue for a very special sporting event: the first major dodgeball tournament with 160 enthusiastic participants took place here and exceeded all expectations. From the very first minutes, there was a rousing atmosphere in the hall that made the joy of sport and community palpable.
The participants competed against each other in rotating groups on three pitches, so that new, dynamic teams were formed time and time again. Right from the start, it was about far more than just sporting competition - the focus was on reviving the lightness and fun of childhood. The enthusiasm with which everyone took part was downright infectious. The positive feedback from all sides showed that this vision had been fully realized.
As this was the first Völkerball event, the organizers were excited to see how it would go. However, thanks to the excellent preparation and the great commitment of the trainees at the University Sports Center for Sport and Fitness, the tournament ran smoothly and without complications. The teams supported each other with enthusiastic cheers and the passion for the sport grew with every round. The teams played, laughed and cheered late into the night.
Snacks and drinks were also well catered for: participants and spectators were able to choose from a wide selection of drinks and sweet snacks to recharge their batteries for the upcoming rounds.
A special highlight of the day were the impressive pictures captured by our public relations team. The photos captured the best moments of the tournament - from dramatic moves to smiling faces and heartfelt high-fives between the teams. These memories will make the event unforgettable.
All in all, the dodgeball tournament was a great success that all participants and organizers will remember for a long time to come. The positive feedback and the many beaming faces on site speak for themselves. We are already looking forward to hopefully bringing this sporting highlight back next year!
At this year's German University Karate Championships, which took place on Saturday, October 19, 2024, in Jena, three athletes from TU Braunschweig were able to successfully assert themselves. Thanks to intensive preparation and a strong team spirit, they achieved several podium places and proved their skills at national level.

Under his direction, the karatekas train on Tuesdays from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Fridays from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. , continuously improving their technique and fitness.

On the evening of October 9, 2024, the popular ErstiGymNight took place in the CampusGym and the sports hall at Beethovenstraße 16. From 6pm to 10pm, sports enthusiasts and other interested first-year students were able to put themselves to the test and get to know the wide range of sports on offer at the university.
From soccer tennis and strenuous burpees to demanding pull-ups, the evening offered a variety of sporting challenges. The participants visibly enjoyed working out and making new friends in a relaxed atmosphere. The opportunity to win up to two months' free membership of CampusGym by taking part in the various challenges was an additional motivational boost for many.
The TU Braunschweig Lions Racing Team was also on site with an information stand and offered exciting insights into the world of motorsports as well as an entertaining mini-game, which also met with great interest.
The ErstiGymNight will take place again next year - an event that the new students can already look forward to!

On Thursday, 20 April 2023, we celebrated the inauguration of the north campus sports hall. Many of you may already know the renovated hall from the inside, as some of our university sports courses have been taking place here since November.
After an opening speech by our President Prof Dr Angela Ittel, Prof Dr Esther Serwe-Pandrick and our Director Mathias Steiln, the invited guests were able to see the new facilities for themselves on Thursday.
In addition to a champagne reception and refreshments, there was also a varied programme: students from the sports department, led by Dr Andrea Probst, gave a practical demonstration of some of the many exercise options available in the sports hall.
The extensive renovation and redesign of the former sports hall has not only made it possible for the University Sports Centre to offer a broader and livelier sports programme, but also to reintegrate the North Campus into the programme. With an innovative, modern and inclusion-orientated sports hall, the Technische Universität Braunschweig campus as a whole will become an even more lively and active place for students, pupils and the city of Braunschweig.
The University Sports Centre is particularly looking forward to many exciting sports courses in the new hall!
