The Media Lab

Introduction to the Media Lab

The Media Lab is a workspace and experimental environment located in the heart of the central campus.
Faculty members, students, and staff from institutes and administration collaborate with the Media Lab team to test new media technologies for use at the university—ranging from simple tools to complex setups. As part of the Project House, the Media Lab provides a platform for a dynamic exchange of knowledge and experiences related to media-supported teaching, learning, and working at TU Braunschweig. It consolidates key didactic and technical information on solution approaches and application scenarios. Through its diverse event formats, the Media Lab enriches university campus life. The team works closely with the university to enhance teaching, learning, and collaboration through the use of media technologies at TU Braunschweig.

Our Achievements

1.400 teachers, students, tarif employees and research assistants

New media and technologies present new opportunities, but also raise questions and challenges. As a result, employees require training and the freedom to experiment. The Media Lab, together with the ZPE and other partners, provided training to around 1,400 teachers, students, tarif employees, and research assistants at TU Braunschweig in the first year through in-person workshops, video training, and individual consultations. Training focused on topics of “artificial intelligence” and “XR in teaching.”

Eine Veranstaltung im Media Lab

Artificial intelligence is a crucial topic for all TU employees and, of course, for our continuing education programs. The Media Lab's offerings for employees working under collective agreement tarifs and GradTUBS are an attractive component of our program — and almost always fully booked.
— Dr. Anne Fleige, Head of Central Human Resources Development

Largest conference on the future of academic education

The largest conference on the future of academic education took place for the first time at TU Braunschweig in 2025 – conceived and organized by the Media Lab and the entire Project House. The University:Future Festival offered numerous exciting workshops and lectures, which were attended by a total of 1,800 guests from all over Germany, both on site and digitally.

The partner stage at TU Braunschweig has had a major impact on the University:Future Festival throughout the DACH region and in Lower Saxony. Some of the most-watched keynotes took place in Braunschweig. In addition, our participant numbers from Lower Saxony have risen significantly—this also applies to purely online participation. The Media Lab's dedicated, professional, and creative approach made this success possible in the first place.
— Sebastian Horndasch, Program Manager at Stifterverband and Festival Director at Hochschulforum Digitalisierung

Ein Referent auf der Bühne des UFF

Many thanks to the Media Lab team for the outstanding implementation of the partner stage at U:FF 2025! I felt very well taken care of and returned to Karlsruhe with many exciting impressions. The communication in the run-up to the event and the implementation itself were both professional and very friendly. Simply great and enriching – I am still drawing on the impressions, ideas, and new contacts!
— Prof. Dr. Robert Lepenies, President of Karlshochschule International University

Cooperations

Logo Projekthaus

The Media Lab is an initiative of the Project House at TU Braunschweig and is largely financed by third-party funding raised by the university. The Project House serves as a source of ideas and an incubator, providing basic administrative processes and personnel, while the Media Lab team works largely independently as an agile team.
