Generally, students study according to the examination regulations that are currently in effect at the time of admission to the programme. However, a query of the version can also be made via the QIS portal at https://vorlesungen.tu-bs.de . Under the section Notenspiegel you can see in which version you are currently studying.

If you have been ill during an examination, you must present the original doctor's note to the Examination Office. This must be presented at the Examinations Office no later than on the third working day (the day of the examination counts as the first working day) from the date of the examination, otherwise the examination attempt must be graded as "not appeared" (5.0). You can also send your doctor's note to the Examinations Office by post, in which case the postmark will be taken as proof that the deadline has been observed. If you are on long-term sick leave, please inform the Examination Office briefly by e-mail.

In the Bachelor and Master course of studies the following applies: For the third and every subsequent sick note for the same examination a medical certificate from an "Amtsarzt" is required! Any other certificate will not be accepted, so that the examination will be assessed as "not passed".

For the issuing of a certificate by a public health officer (Amtsarzt), the public health department of the city of Braunschweig, Hamburger Str. 226, is available. The registration is made there in room 36, at the latest by 11:30 a.m. on the day of the examination; costs: 60,00 Euro

As key qualifications, modules from the overall program of interdisciplinary courses of the TU Braunschweig can be taken, which according to the module handbook require an active proof of achievement for successful participation (e.g. exam, term paper, presentation, etc.). You can find an overview in the Pool-Directory. The courses from the program „Handlungsbezogener Kompetenzen“ can also be included here.

Language Course can be taken, if the following applies:

• First foreign language learned in school: At least level B2
• Second and third foreign language learned in school: from level B1 and upwards
• all other languages: from A1 and upwards

This applies to foreign students:

• German courses can be included starting at level C1.

In the professionalization area of the Bachelor's and Master's programs FWM and Mathematics, an industrial internship can be completed (2 LP in the Bachelor's and 3 LP in the Master's). In order to be credited, the following applies:

• the industrial internship must last at least ten consecutive working days
• an internship report for presentation to the examination board must be submitted to the examination office. The report should contain a confirmation from the company, a description of the company and a description of the activities in the company. The report should consist of at least one and at most two DIN A4 pages. A declaration of autonomy must be included.

The internship should be beneficial to the studies. Possible internships can be found, for example, via the job exchange of the Career Service der TU Braunschweig. Alternatively, you can search for internship positions online via appropriate platforms.

For the recognition of other modules that are not listed in the overall program of interdisciplinary qualifications, a written application must be submitted to the examination office.

How many credit points you can or must earn through key qualifications can be found in the examination regulations that apply to you.

In order to have your completed key qualifications credited, please submit your certificate of achievement during office hours at the Examination Office. Please note that it is not the date of submission that counts, but the date of the examination.

Additional achievements are all achievements (exams and course achievements) that will not be considered part of your current study programme. These achievements will not count towards your 180 credit points of the bachelor's degree or your 120 credit points of the master's degree. Additional achievements are all achievements that you might want to "pre-study" for a different study programme. For example, if you are finishing your bachelor's degree you might already want to take a few courses that will count towards your subsequent master's degree. Or you might want to take language courses out of interest, that can't count towards your current study programme.

Additional achievements have to be registered with the Examination Office before the exam is taken. Additional achievements can only be registered by using the form paper (available on the documents page). Please note that additional course achievements must also be registered with the Examination Office. They cannot be listed on your transcript of records if they were not registered.

A maximum of 35 CP of pre-studied achievements can be recognised in your Master's programme.

Students may suffer disadvantages during their studies if they are ill or disabled. For such cases there are the regulations of the disadvantage compensation.

Both students on maternity leave (during pregnancy, after childbirth and while breastfeeding) and students with child/children or care responsibilities may experience disadvantages during their studies due to their special situation. For such cases there are regulations for the compensation of disadvantages.

Students who request services from the university (teaching, supervision or taking exams) must be enrolled according to §19 NHG and may not be on leave of absence. 

The preparation and submission of the final thesis is an examination performance. Accordingly, diploma, master or bachelor theses can only be registered, prepared and submitted if the student is not exmatriculated and not on leave of absence. De-registration is possible immediately after submission of the final thesis (or after taking the last examination) (however, the examination has not yet been graded and if you fail, you must re-register for the next semester if you have already de-registered).

The final thesis is considered passed if a so-called "4.0 certificate" is available. This is a confirmation from the first and second examiners after submission of the thesis that the scientific work has been graded at least "sufficient". The final date is the day on which the last exam was completed (submission date of the final paper/ or the day of the last exam).

In order not to have to pay the full tuition fee when taking the last exam (examination or submission of the final paper) shortly after the start of a new semester, the NHG provides for the following regulation: According to §19 paragraph 6 sentence 4 NHG, students can be exmatriculated within one month after the start of lectures at the latest and will then have their tuition fees refunded.

If all exams and study achievements are passed, the corresponding certificates and diplomas are generated automatically.

Certificates and deeds are processed on an ongoing basis. As soon as your documents are ready for collection, we will inform you by e-mail.

The process of creating a certificate starts at the Examinations Office only after the evaluation of your last exam performance has been received at the Examinations Office. Usually this is the final thesis. The report on the final thesis should be submitted to the Examinations Office four weeks after submission of the thesis. Please ask at the Examinations Office whether the report is available four weeks after your submission. This is the only way to ensure that there will be no long delays in your documents and certificates. After receipt of the last examination result, your certificate and report will be printed and then go through the signature cycle. As a rule, it takes about 2 months until the certificate and diploma are ready for collection.

Please note: You can only pick up your degree certificate when you can prove that you are exmatriculated or are enrolled in a different study programme. 

If you have to fulfill admission requirements, you must register at the Examination Office for the respective examinations. The Examination Office will inform the examiners that you will take the respective exam.

If you have fulfilled all your admission requirements and all examination results have been received by the examination office, we will gladly issue a certificate as proof for presentation at the matriculation office. Please contact the Examination Office in good time and inform us that a certificate is to be issued. Please allow about three working days for processing.
