Short biography

Alejandro Tirachini is Professor at TU Braunschweig, where he leads the Institute of Public Transport Planning (IPTP), launched in September 2025. Previously he has been Visiting Professor and Humboldt Fellow at TU Munich (2019-2020) and Associate Professor at the University of Twente (2023-2025). He is also part-time Professor at Universidad de Chile.

He has been Associate Editor of the Journal of Public Transportation (2019-2024) and co-editor of the Handbook on Transport Pricing and Financing (Edward Elgar Publishing, 2023).

His main research interests are the design, planning and operation of public transport systems and the study of shared mobility and emerging mobility technologies from a sustainable mobility perspective. He has worked on transport research projects applied in Chile, Australia, Germany, the Netherlands, Singapore and Mexico.
