Course Objective

Students acquire knowledge of methods and procedures for the aerodynamic analysis and design of aircraft
configurations. Students get to know basic aerodynamic interference mechanisms of the major aircraft components for
various aircraft categories. The students will be enabled to assess design relevant aerodynamic aspects of the full aircraft
configuration and its main components.

Course Content

  • Analysis methods for configuration aerodynamics, aircraft for subsonic speed (wing / fuselage and tail arrangements)
  • commercial aircraft for transonic speeds (wing, high-lift systems, engine/airframe integration, tails)
  • supersonic aircraft (large SST transports and business jets)
  • flying wing configurations, military configurations (engine intakes, stealth design aspects)
  • development trends
