The ISM explores applications in a wide range of fields in which an object interacts with a fluid flow. High-impact applications include aircraft, spacecraft, unmanned aerial vehicles and road vehicles, as well as energy systems, renewable energy and bioengineering. We endeavor to cover a broad spectrum of physical phenomena, from the smallest biological scales up to the very largest aircraft or reentry vehicles.
The Institute contributes to both Bachelor and Master's study programs of TU Braunschweig. We offer comprehensive courses in the fundamentals of fluid mechanics, taking a deep insight on fundamental processes, such as laminar and turbulent flows, aerodynamic theory and experimental methods.
"We conduct research at the interfaces between experimental fluid dynamics, novel sensing, robust modelling and data assimilation, with applications in, for instance, the aerospace, automotive and energy sectors."
