Milestones of Software-Engineering - Selected Turing Award Winners of the last Decade

Audience
Bachelor and master students studying computer science, business informatics or IST who are interested in scientific work.

Registration
Use StudIP to register yourself for the seminar. We have limited our capacities to a maximum of 10 attendees!

Grading
For a successful participation, the following tasks have to be fulfilled:

  • Written paper about your topic (Bachelor: 6-8 pages, Master: 8-10 pages; both in ACM double column style).
  • Review of two other papers
  • Design of a poster about your topic
  • Bachelor: 20 minutes talk about your topic and 5 minutes discussion. Master: 25 minutes talk about your topic and 5 minutes discussion.
  • Participation in all lectures is recommended

Most of the seminar is planned online. For the lectures we will use a BBB room, which will be announced in the Kick-Off lecture.

We are planning to hold the final presentations in person, if allowed by the situation.

Content

For 54 years the ACM honors excelent acomplishments in computer science with the ACM Turing Award. It is the highest award in computer science and honored work marks the historical milestones in computer science.

The seminar deals with selected Turing Award winners, their life, their acomplishments, and the influence of their work today.

In this seminar, you will use academic procedures to analyze milestones of software engineering. Each participant chooses a turing award winner and elaborate on his lifes, his work and his influence on software engineering today.
