Software Quality 1

Cath-up exam winter term 2020/21

The catch-up exam in the winter term 2020/21 is in form of a paper.

All enrolled students will receive the description of the task containing the formal requirements of the paper and two cases of which one can be chosen on 16.02.2021 via email.

To submit your paper, please send a mail to Prof. Dr. Schaefer and Tabea Bordis until 15.03.2021, 11:59 p.m.

Please notice!

This lecture is the successor to the "Processes and methods for the testing of software" lecture. If you already have taken the exam in PMTS, you can not take the exam in SQ1. The topics of the lecture have been updated.

Lecturer: Prof. Dr. Ina Schaefer
Assistant: Tabea Bordis, M.Sc.

Module number: INF-SSE-39

Content

This lecture will present the aspect of software quality in the software development process. It will focus especially on the aspects of software testing. We will teach the fundamental basics of software testing, based on the concepts defined by the German Testing Board. The lecture will cover both the underlying theoretical management processes as well as the pratical testing methods used in software testing.

In the second half, the lecture will cover model based testing approaches as well as methods for testing of variant rich systems. These topics will be enriched presenting current scientific results.

The lecture will be given in german (or english, if neccesary).

Dates

Usually, the lectures and tutorials will be uploaded on the following days.

Lecture: Thursday

Tutorial: Friday

If required, the dates of the lecture and the tutorial will be swapped (cf. Timetable).

Exam

In this semester, we shall not take written exams if possible. Therefore, the exam for SQ1 will be in form of a paper instead of the originally planned written exam. This means the following:

  1. You have to enroll yourself for the  SQ1 exam in your examination office in the regular time period for the registration of exams. The proper registration is a requirement for the submission of a paper.
  2. You have the option to deregister from the exam until 15.8.. This is the regulation from the exam regulations for the branch of study "Informatik" and for exam regulations without special rules regarding exams in form of papers; otherwise, the regulations of your specific exam regulation hold.
  3. We will upload 4 different cases for you on 16.8. on StudIP. You decide for one of them and independently write a paper with around 2500 words about it. The literature used in you paper has to be cited following the standard citation rules.
  4. You have to hand in your paper until 15.9. The precise modalities for the submission will be announced at a later point of time. The papers have to contain a declaration of authorship (like for theses).
  5. We will check your papers for plagiarism. Furthermore, we may ask questions regarding the paper in a mail or a video conference up to 4 weeks after the submission.
  6. The grade of your paper will be your exam performance.
  7. For the 3rd attempt, there is no right to an oral examination.

ISTQB Certification

Due to the situation caused by COVID-19 we will not take exams for the ISTQB certification this semester.

Plan and Lecture documents

The lecture Software Quality 1 will be held completely online this semester. You will be able to download the lecture materials in Stud.IP and in a Redmine ( https://sep.isf.cs.tu-bs.de/redmine/projects/sq1-2020/ ). Please enroll yourself in the Stud.IP course and the tutorial Software Quality 1 (Not PMTS). You are not allowed to publicly release any of the given material.

Usually, the lecture materials will be published on the days mentioned earlier.

For the lecture, we will upload slides and video casts of the lecture. Additionally, there will be a small test containing some questions for the content of every lecture under Vips in StudIP.

For the tutorial, we will upload exercise sheets with exercises for a distinct topic of the lecture. Some of the exercises, can only be solved on a computer. If tools are required for any exercise, you will find all the information on the exercise sheet. One week after an exercise sheet has been uploaded, we will provide a sample solution for self control.

If you have any questions regarding the content of the lectures or tutorials, please use the forum in StudIP. If a more detailed answer is needed, make an appointment with the lecturer or the assistant of the lecture.
