Summary of the overall project:

The aim of the “HighEnergy” project in the ProZell cluster is to increase the performance of lithium-ion cells while simultaneously retrenchments material and manufacturing costs and thus establishing the prerequisites for technological and cost leadership in large-scale battery production in Germany. The project pursues a dual approach and combines the expertise of process- and process-engineering working groups with well-founded know-how of researchers in the field of electrochemical and structure-based simulation and modelling of batteries.

Objectives and tasks of the iPAT

  • Process and product development for high-energy electrodes suitable for continuous and cost-efficient production
  • Significant increase in energy density through realization of high area capacities (3 – 9 mAh/cm2) – -Minimization of local depletion of charge carriers for maximization of area capacity through hierarchical structuring concepts
  • Structuring: Material side – binder, conductive additives, active material particle size, Si-content Process side – focus on mixing and calendering process
  • Focus in the development of graphite-silicon anodes: Identification of the optimum of the highest possible capacity and sufficient cycle stability for technical applications

Project partners
