The course provides a sound understanding of the potentials and restrictions of additive manufacturing processes (3D printing) with a special focus on their influence on the design process. The aim is to familiarize students with the specific design freedoms that arise from the layered structure of these technologies and at the same time to sensitize them to the technological limitations.
The focus is on the question of how additive manufacturing can be used specifically as an integral part of product development. Participants learn how to design components that are functional and suitable for the material and how to systematically integrate the special possibilities and challenges of additive processes into the development process. This creates a holistic understanding of the constructive design of additively manufactured products.
