The Graduate Academy’s journey began in 2015, when the six faculties agreed to jointly establish and develop the GradTUBS Graduate Academy. Since then, GradTUBS has offered an extensive programme of workshops and events for all PhD researchers at TU Braunschweig, and since 2021 also for PhD researchers at the University of Art Braunschweig.
Currently, about 1,300 registered PhD researchers make use of the programme, which is constantly evolving. It now consists of five components that cover the wide range of challenges – from disciplinary skills to personal well‑being. Additionally the option of a coaching exists.
The Graduate Academy at TU Braunschweig came up with a very special concept for its anniversary. The anniversary celebration focused primarily on interaction, services for doctoral students, fun and inspiration. The auditorium was designed as a map with islands and the GradTUBS boat in the middle.
The journey to the doctoral islands began with a welcome from the chairperson of the GradTUBS Council, Prof. Ulrich Römer, followed by a talk on personal well-being by happiness researcher Tobias Rahm.
Then, everyone was invited to explore the various islands and discuss topics relevant to doctoral studies, seek advice, meet key players in doctoral studies, and take advantage of direct contact with the GradTUBS crew.
Afterwards, President Prof. Angela Ittel gave a welcoming speech in which she vividly recalled her own doctoral studies. Prof. Martin Korte followed with a lecture on general trust in science. The celebration concluded with a toast to the anniversary of the GradTUBS Graduate Academy.
