Dr. Lennart Banse was a research associate in the fourC Early Career Research Group until the end of 2025. In his doctoral project, he examined how institutional structures, relationships, and expectations regarding researchers’ individual science communication overlap or conflict with their professional self-concepts, and what consequences this may have for their individual science communication practices. In addition, the five studies comprising his dissertation focused on identifying potential support and incentive structures that policymakers, research organizations, and research funding bodies could implement to motivate researchers to engage in science communication in ways that are socially meaningful and sustainable. He successfully defended his dissertation on December 12, 2025.

He is currently a postdoctoral researcher in Prof. Dr. Friederike Hendriks’ team at IPN Kiel. In this role, he continues to conduct qualitative and quantitative analyses of the interplay between institutional structures and the individual understandings and practices of science communication among actor groups within institutionalized science communication, including researchers, professional communicators, outreach coordinators, and others.
