Cabin Noise – Prediction, Testing, Reduction

20. - 21. October 2026

Haus der Wissenschaft, Weitblick/Ideenraum, Braunschweig

Cabin noise in aircraft and vehicles is not only a topic in passenger comfort, but it concerns health, working environment for operating personnel, and -not the least- a low noise cabin is a quality criterion for customers and thus economic success for manufacturers. Cabin noise is complex since it occurs as a result of many different sources of sound. There are external sources such as the airborne noise from the propulsion and turbulent flow past the surfaces, but also structure borne noise, i.e. by the excitation of vibrations from rotors and jets. On the other hand, interior sources from within the vehicle may be of relevance as the HVAC system as well as hydraulic pumps etc.; in future a/c concepts with electric propulsions the cabin will be influenced by noise from electric motors etc. With the renewed interest in propeller aircraft as the most energy efficient propulsion for flight the topic of tonal noise will gain particular importance.

The Workshop intends to bring together experts to discuss possibilities for prediction and testing in the light of today’s capabilities for computation and experiments. Moreover, concepts for passive and active reduction of cabin noise in view of intelligent materials and systems are of high interest.

The 27th CEAS-ASC Workshop on Cabin Noise will be jointly hosted by SFB/TRR SynTrac and DLR. The call for abstracts, registration, and other info will be available soon.
