Research Partners

Research partners of the Faculty of Life Sciences

TU Braunschweig collaborates closely with renowned non-university partners to advance cutting-edge research in the life sciences. These partnerships drive interdisciplinary innovations in fields such as infection researchbiotechnology, and metrology. Explore our key partners and their groundbreaking projects!

Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI)

The Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) is an internationally recognized research institute focusing on infectious diseases and the development of innovative therapies. Key research areas include analyzing antibiotic resistance, identifying novel anti-infective agents, and applying systems biology modeling to study host-pathogen interactions. Researchers at the HZI have access to high-security laboratories with biosafety level 3 (BSL-3), enabling work with highly infectious pathogens.

German Collection of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures (DSMZ)

The DSMZ houses the most diverse collection of biological resources in Europe and serves as a global hub for research and industry. Its focus lies in preserving microbial diversity, advancing genomics of bacteria and fungi, and providing certified reference strains for biotechnology and medicine. With over 80,000 microorganisms, cell lines, and genomes in its archives, the DSMZ is a cornerstone of life sciences innovation worldwide.

Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB)

The PTB is Germany’s National Metrology Institute and ranks as the second-largest metrology institute in the world. A global leader in precision measurement technology and the advancement of the International System of Units (SI), the PTB drives innovations such as standards for biomedical imaging and quantum-based sensors for single-cell analysis.
