Lectures

Principles of Production and Logistics

Course description

The lecture aims at imparting a fundamental understanding of production economics and logistic questions, of the theory of operational value creation for the analysis of production systems, and the knowledge of decision theoretical models for the solution of central questions of production economics. Students are taught the principle of sustainability assessment. They are familiarized with concepts of economic assessment, and a basic understanding of ecological and social assessment concepts is provided. In addition, practical skills such as the theory based analysis of production and logistics systems, the application of qualitative and quantitative methods for modelling and solving problems related to production economics and logistics, and the transfer of methods and models to new problem types are discussed.

Please note: This lecture is held in German and is equivalent in content to the lecture "Production Systems and Supply Chains" held in English.

Organization

  • Language: German
  • Cycle: annual, summer semester
  • Time/Room: Tuesday 16:45 - 18:15, AudiMax
  • Start date: 15 April 2025
  • Lecturer: Prof. Dr. Thomas S. Spengler
  • Teaching assistant: Karen Ohmstede

  • Lecturer: Prof. Dr. Thomas S. Spengler and Dr. Kerstin Schmidt
Production Systems and Supply Chains

The lecture "Production Systems and Supply Chains" is intended for students of the degree program "Sustainable Engineering of Products and Processes".

Course description

The students gain a fundamental understanding of production systems and supply chains in the context of sustainable development. They are capable to model and analyze production systems using qualitative and quantitative methods. They understand the interrelations of production with procurement, distribution, and (reverse) logistics. The students are familiar with economic assessment concepts and have a basic understanding of environmental and social assessment concepts. They can transfer the individual assessment concepts into an integrated assessment approach.

Please note: This lecture is held in English and is equivalent in content to the lecture "Principles of Production and Logistics" held in German.

Organization

Software-based Applications of Operations Research

Course description

This lecture focuses on learning and using relevant standard software from the fields of operations research and data analytics. The focus of the application of this software is on selected issues relating to the optimization of production and logistics systems. Knowledge is imparted through a basic introduction to model creation and application as well as the fundamentals of data analysis. In order to deepen the learning process and enable the confident use of the tools, the software is made accessible through supervised and independent use.

Software tools:

  • Model creation and application using Python and Gurobi
  • Data analysis using KNIME

Organization

  • Language: German
  • Cycle: annual, summer semester
  • Time/Room: Monday 13:15 - 14:45, SN 23.3
  • Start date: 14.04.2025
  • Lecturer: Prof. Dr. Thomas S. Spengler and Prof. Dr. Dirk Mattfeld
  • Teaching assistant: Dr. Kerstin Schmidt, Patrick Schumacher, Alexander Bosse, Felix Spühler
Operations Management

Course description

The course addresses typical questions regarding production economics and logistics. Quantitative and qualitative methods will be applied to model and solve industrial problems. The students will gain a basic understanding of the most important instruments and methods such as simulation, optimization, and operational planning systems (APS, ERP).

Organization

  • Language: German
  • Cycle: annual, winter semester
  • Time/Room:

    Monday: 11:30 a.m. - 01:00 p.m., weekly, Location: tba
