Project Description:
The research project "Metal Trade, Empires and War: New Data and Methods in Ancient Economic History, which is supported by DFG, investigates the impact of long-distance metal trade during the Bronze Age on societal development. In cooperation with the Department of Prehistory and Early History at the Georg-August Universität Göttingen, the Institute of Economics investigates how long-distance metal trade influenced societal development during the Bronze Age, focusing on its relationship with organized warfare, state formation, and the spread of weighing technologies. The project combines methods from economic history, archaeology, and computational sciences.
