Individualized and Interdisciplinary Educational Pathways Through University Collaboration
The joint project “Campus in Transition” by the Technical University of Braunschweig, the University of Göttingen, and Leuphana University Lüneburg is funded by the Foundation for Innovation in Higher Education under the call for proposals “Teaching Architecture: Shaping the University of the Future” with a total funding volume of 12.8 million euros.
In a time of multiple, interconnected crises, universities are called upon to fundamentally rethink their structures, educational offerings, and forms of collaboration. “Campus in Transition” (CiT) responds to these challenges with an innovative, cross-university approach.
The project aims to structurally renew higher education, develop it flexibly, and thereby make it sustainably future-proof. It seeks to set new standards in university cooperation in the areas of study and teaching by establishing a new culture of collaboration. To this end, the existing boundaries between universities will be shifted collectively to offer students and faculty interdisciplinary and cross-campus educational opportunities and to challenge existing structures and processes that hinder progress.
In “Campus in Transition,” the three partners are pooling their complementary strengths.
The goal is to create a Lower Saxony campus that focuses on flexible and personalized study structures with a wide range of options: the aim is to develop dynamic teaching and study frameworks, further refine the underlying structures and processes, and enhance the institutional agility of the three participating Lower Saxony universities.
Model Initiative for Lower Saxony
The Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture (MWK) supports the project as a model initiative for university cooperation to set new standards for cross-university collaboration and structural innovation, thereby also creating new solutions at the state level.
The project is currently in the start-up phase.
To this end, we are seeking project staff at all three locations to support and advance our initiative.

Project Duration: October 1, 2025 – September 30, 2029 (with an option to extend until 2031)
Partners: TU Braunschweig, University of Göttingen, Leuphana University Lüneburg
Total funding for the consortium: €8.5 million (for an initial period of 4 years) (+ €4.3 million):
TU Braunschweig: €3.9 million (+ €1.9 million in the event of a positive interim evaluation after 4 years)
University of Göttingen: €2.2 million (+ €1.3 million in the event of a positive interim evaluation after 4 years)
Leuphana University Lüneburg: €2.4 million (+ €1.1 million in the event of a positive interim evaluation after 4 years)
