Development and characterization of an in-vitro model of the nasal mucosa
In preclinical studies on active ingredients and formulations for nasal application, animal experiments are carried out that can be reduced using In-vitro models of the nasal mucosa in accordance with the 3R principle (Replace, Reduce, Refine). Our research focuses on the development of a new in -vitromodel that mimics the physiological properties, in particular permeability and mucociliary clearance, of the human nasal mucosa. A particular focus is on the detailed characterization of this model with regard to mucus quality and quantity as well as cilia expression.
