Development of an innovative dimensioning and simulation system for dimensioning and planning the required breakwater system made of net containers

Brief description

In many places, sandy coasts suffer from significant erosion, which is currently often reduced or prevented by breakwaters or groins. This project focuses on innovative breakwaters made from net containers. These net containers can be arranged into breakwaters of various dimensions and can therefore be used flexibly. The aim is to dimension these innovative breakwaters and define possible application scenarios.

The hydraulic efficiency of the breakwater is to be analysed to find out to what extent the energy of the waves is reduced and thus the erosion of the beach and dune areas behind it is minimised. At the same time, the stability of the breakwater must be guaranteed under various realistic hydrodynamic loads. This is being investigated as part of a comprehensive physical test campaign. The aim is to develop a robust system that guarantees sustainable beach protection.
