Sustainability in Engineering and Management

Target audience

The seminar "Sustainability in Engineering and Management" is especially aimed at students of Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering and other Master's programs of Faculty 4 and Faculty 1, as well as the master's programme in environmental engineering in Faculty 3. The seminar is connected to the OHLF Summer School and also aims to offer students from our partner institutions, including BITS Pilani, Manipal University Jaipur, and the University of Rhode Island, the opportunity to participate and engage in international exchange, provided that appropriate funding is available.

Content

• Explore key challenges and opportunities in sustainability-oriented engineering and management
• Learn how to design products and processes based on life-cycle and circular-economy thinking
• Apply methods and tools for sustainability assessment in practical industrial contexts
• Develop innovative and digital solution approaches, including concepts from Industry 4.0
• Analyze real-world case studies from ecological and sustainability perspectives
• Work in teams on practice-oriented projects and develop your own concepts and prototypes
• Gain experience in structuring projects, defining goals, and applying methods independently
• Present and discuss your ideas, solutions, and selected technologies in a collaborative environment
• Strengthen your teamwork and intercultural collaboration skills through international exchange opportunities, where applicable
• Benefit from interactive lectures combined with hands-on group work and practical applications
