Mission Statement

We are a public research institute with a long tradition. We expand and transfer scientific and technological knowledge in fluid mechanics.

Inventiveness, quality, and reliability guide our research effort to discover and to share innovations. We are committed to the values of internationalisation, cultural diversity, and equality. We work according to the rules of good scientific practice. Along with our collaborations, we help shape the future of aviation research.

We solve tasks creatively and diligently. The continuous support by our experienced workgroup leaders and the participation in conferences with peers ensures professional and personal development of our employees. We promote training and further education in relevant branches of the technical field.

The expertise of our workgroups covers a wide range of theoretical, numerical, experimental, and modelling methods. This enables us to successfully carry out even complex projects.

We have our own test facilities with high-quality measurement systems, a workshop with modern tooling and CNC machines, powerful computer systems with up-to-date software, access to high-performance computer centres, and our very own archives.

The national and international research community, as well as aviation and car companies, constitute our most valuable partners. We offer our students a wide range of courses in the field of fluid mechanics and aerodynamics and integrate them into current research.
