Summary of the project:
In the BiSSFest project, process steps ranging from material synthesis to the production of electrodes and separators, and ultimately to the assembly of multilayered, bipolar solid-state battery cells are being investigated in collaboration with partners from industry and academia. The construction of bipolar cells, which is not practically feasible for conventional lithium-ion batteries with liquid electrolytes, can enable a further increase in energy density. Sulfide-based solid electrolytes are used in the project, which are characterized by their high ionic conductivity. At the institute, particular focus is placed on the fabrication of cathodes and separators with the aim of improving both cell performance and processability.
