English writing advisory sessions

• The service is free for all students of TU Braunschweig. We also accept students from Hochschule für Bildende Künste (HBK). Unfortunately we cannot take those who are course auditors (Gasthörer/in) or aren't members of these institutions.
• You will find the sign-up link below. It is important that you read these steps and understand the process before registering.

• Please set up an appointment via email to s.luther(at)tu-braunschweig.de.
• Once you have signed up,  email your English text at least 7 days before the session. Please plan ahead, including time for reading and review.  
• Up to 4 pages (double-spaced/doppelter Zeilenabstand) of your work can be reviewed during one session. For ease of annotations, please ensure that all texts submitted are double-spaced and in an open editable format (If possible, no PDFs!).
• You can also come to our "open door" office hour without an appointment; however, in this case we can only review up to 2 pages of your work.
• Any writing related to your studies or career is acceptable. For example: thesis sections, journal articles, abstracts, lab reports, applications for grants or internships, essays or other assignments, CVs, cover letters, etc.
• All subjects and faculties are welcome.
• It helps us to know your background before you come to your feedback session. In your email to set up an appointment, please provide the following information: what you study, at which level (Bachelor, Master, Doctorate, etc.), what you’re researching or working on, your specific concerns about your text
• Remember that EWAS is not a correction service that offers rewrites or extensive editing. The long-term goal is to help you improve your English writing skills. (For more information on extensive editing, see our “Extras” section below.)
• Advisory sessions are one-on-one only; you must take the time to come in. (Sorry, no email consultations!)

• Once your work has been read and reviewed, you are ready for your advisory session.
• Each session is a minimum of 30 minutes, but may be longer as time and scheduling permits.
• When: Thursdays 1-2 p.m. and 5-6 p.m. + “open door” on Wednesdays 1-2 p.m.
• It may be possible to make arrangements at alternative times, please ask. Keep in mind that a minimum of one week preparation always applies unless you come to our "open door" office hour.

• Once your work has been read and reviewed, you are ready for your advisory session.
• The writing advisory sessions will be held in form of video conferences.
• Appointments will continue to be scheduled via e-mail.

• At home, revise your text, applying the feedback you have received.
• Make a list of the suggestions and your common errors. As you write, periodically double-check your text.
• We know that writing improvement is not instantaneous. Follow-up appointments are welcome, but it should be on the same or a closely related text.
• Each person may come for up to three sessions per semester. If you need more, try one of our writing classes!
