In information technology, data transfer rates are constantly increasing as the demand for fast wireless data communication also grows rapidly. To enable speeds of 100 gigabits per second and higher, a new approach to communication technology is needed. The research group “Metrology for THz Communications” is dedicated to this topic. The focus is on communication technology with very high data rates for the largely untouched terahertz (THz) frequency range above 300 GHz. In the future, terabits per second could be transmitted in this frequency range. However, this poses enormous challenges for today's communication technology. The Meteracom research group is working on metrology for future THz communication systems and aims, among other things, to develop measurement methods that help predict the performance of THz communication in real-world environments.
