Building on the competences acquired in lower secondary school, the programme "Leaf Diversity" in accordance with the Lower Saxony Core Curriculum for Biology Teaching in Upper Secondary School can use the knowledge from the basic concepts of system, structure and function in a new context. In the programme "Leaf diversity", both structure-function relationships at the level of organs as well as variability and adaptation play a role (competence area subject knowledge).
At the same time, process-related competences are promoted here: Observing and describing, investigating, analysing and comparing. In the programme, the pupils work with binoculars and microscopes and make biological factual drawings. The description of phenomena with familiar and new technical terms is used as well as the presentation and interpretation of facts and contexts.
