Panel discussion - Anti-Semitism and hostility towards science

Together with Felix Klein (Federal Commissioner for the Fight against Anti-Semitism and for the Protection of Jewish Life in Germany), Melanie Brinkmann (Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research/Institute of Genetics at TU Braunschweig), and Dirk Sadowski (Leibniz Institute for Educational Media/Georg Eckert Institute), our junior research group leader Friederike Hendriks discussed antisemitism and hostility towards science and possible dangers for society and science on the podium. The debate took place in the old town hall of the city of Braunschweig and was moderated by Shelly Kupferberg (journalist/Berlin).

The event was organized by the Bet Tfila - Research Centre for Jewish Architecture at the TU Braunschweig, which is also providing documentation and a recording: Report on the pages of Bet Tfila

New third-party funded project: Trust in Citizen Science (TiCS)

In citizen science projects, citizens provide data for science, for example by photographing insects. Photo: Bianca Loschinsky/TU Braunschweig

Counting insects, measuring water quality, recording your own mood: Citizen science involves citizens in research processes. But what processes of trust can be observed within such projects? How do scientists perceive citizen science projects? And how are insights gained through citizen science received by the wider public?

In November, the joint project Trust in CItizen Science (TiCS) will be launched to get to the bottom of such questions. The applicants for the Braunschweig sub-project are Dr. Friederike Hendriks and Prof. Dr. Monika Taddicken. The sub-projects of the joint partners are led by Dr. Marlene Altenmüller and Prof. Dr. Mario Gollwitzer (LMU Munich) and Dr. Susanne Hecker and Silke Voigt-Heucke (Museum für Naturkunde Berlin). The project is being funded for three years by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research with almost 900,000 euros.

Things to know about science communication

Junior Research Group

In the magazine of the TU Braunschweig, the head of the junior research group fourC Dr. Friederike Hendriks reports on the importance of science communication and the growing communicative demands on scientists. Science aims to further develop society, which is why society has a legitimate right to have science communicated to it. Thoughts on what constitutes good science communication and how this can be achieved by scientists can be found here: Wissenswertes über Wissenschaftskommunikation - TU Braunschweig | Blogs (tu-braunschweig.de)

Successful start of our training program

Junior Research Group fourC Training Mai 2022

Exciting discussions and insightful exercises around one's own science communication - on five training days between May 21 and 29, 2022, our fourC training took place for the first time at TU Braunschweig's North Campus. The participating master students of natural and technical sciences faced the task of communicating as effectively and appropriately as possible about their own research work in various situations.

They all mastered this task very well. The participants and we as the project team were correspondingly satisfied at the end of the training sessions. More impressions, background information and pictures about our trainings can be found here.
