Professor Michael Terörde and Philip Senkpiel from the Institute of Electromagnetic Compatibility together with Johanna Anspach from the Junior Research Group Wiring Technologies of the Faculty EITP participated in a 2-day workshop on "SAGA: Superconducting Electric Aircraft Systems for Green Aviation" at our strategic partner university in Glasgow/Scotland, the University of Strathclyde (UoS)".

Through a seed funding call between the two universities, there was the opportunity to talk to experts on superconductivity, aircraft electrical systems and power electronics. Patrick Norman (UoS) had taken over the planning and implementation of the workshop. He is a proven expert in aviation electronics and DC Protection Systems.

On the second day, the different laboratories of the University of Strathclyde were presented on the topics of superconductivity, micro grids, DC safety laboratory and fiber composites. The aim of the workshop was an intensive exchange on the future of aircraft, getting to know each other and discussing joint collaborations. It was agreed to develop joint publications such as "AC Losses of Superconductors in Future All Electric Aircraft" and "New Protection Methods for Voltage-variable On-board Power Systems."

The hope is that project ideas will also emerge from the joint publications and that these will eventually lead to collaborative projects between TUBS and UoS. The delegation from TUBS was warmly welcomed at UoS and the willingness for talks and projects was and is great.

However, the main challenge will be to maintain the thread of conversation over the 1,040 km distance. The joint lunch breaks and dinner were used to get to know each other beyond the technical aspects and the planning for a return visit and a workshop here at TUBS, at the end of the year, has already begun.
