Culture of the Techno-scientific World (Master)

As a graduate of the humanities, you will acquire basic knowledge of and become familiar with the ways of reasoning in the natural and technical sciences.

As a graduate of technical and natural sciences subjects, you will acquire basic skills in cultural studies.

This will put you in an excellent starting position to enter professional fields that require knowledge of both cultures.

With its curriculum comprising the following subjects, this German-wide unique degree programme leaves you with many options to choose from:

• English Studies, German Studies, History, Philosophy

• Architecture and Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, History of Pharmacy, Psychology, Physics, Media Studies, etc.

Two areas of specialisation are available:

• a specialisation in cultural studies with a focus on the humanities

• a specialisation in the cultural sciences with a focus on the technical and natural sciences.

The Master’s degree enables you to pursue an academic career by earning a doctorate (Dr. phil.). A mentoring programme in cooperation with numerous institutions in the region also opens up further career opportunities and provides room for additional orientation.

You will see: The theories and methods of the humanities, natural sciences and technical sciences differ, but no more fundamentally than the basics and procedures of, say, literary studies and historical studies or mechanical engineering and biology are different.

The Master’s degree qualifies you, for example, to work in the following fields:

• internal and external communication in scientific institutions and in private enterprises

• communication of technical and natural sciences projects through media

• documentation and archiving

• science management

• international technical language and functional texts

• intercultural communication

• publishing and media

Furthermore, this Master’s programme opens up career paths, e.g.:

• in the academic library service

• in the archives service

• in journalism

• in marketing, etc.

The degree programme also qualifies students to pursue a doctorate in English Studies, German Studies, History, and Philosophy.
