During the second funding phase of the project, the work will focus on aerodynamic and aero acoustic investigations of UHBR-engines in podded and embedded installation. An installation position close to the wing trailing edge seems beneficial for both improved high-lift capabilities during low speed as well as good cruise efficiency. This shall be defined and secured by detailed parametric studies. The flow straightening effect of the upstream wing configurations, which should allow for reduced nacelle drag design at high by-pass ratio will be investigated. In addition, the upstream noise radiation effects of the large fan will be analyzed.
