Achieving climate neutrality in aviation requires a fundamental long-term transformation of the energy carriers used. In addition to conventional kerosene, sustainable aviation fuels, hydrogen, and electricity are expected to play an increasingly important role in the future. The introduction of these energy carriers poses significant challenges for airports, as new infrastructure must be developed while existing infrastructure needs to be gradually adapted or decommissioned. In particular, coordinating the development and decommissioning of infrastructure in terms of timing and economic efficiency requires long-term investment decisions under evolving technical, economic, and regulatory conditions. Against this background, the question arises of how the development and decommissioning of airport infrastructure can be optimally planned from an economic perspective over the long term as part of an airport's energy carrier transition.
The aim of this thesis is to develop a mathematical optimization model for planning an airport's energy carrier transition and to implement it using Python and Gurobi. Depending on individual interests, different areas of focus can be explored.
