On November 21, 2025, at 3:30 p.m., a lecture in our event series "Braunschweig Seminar Economics, Politics & Practice" took place, which was attended by approximately 50 guests and led to a lively exchange. The speaker, Prof. Dr. Annekatrin Niebuhr, addressed the topic "Regions in Structural Change: Different Challenges and Adaptation Potentials."

Topic: Regions in Structural Change: Different Challenges and Adaptation Potentials

The German Research Foundation (DFG) has approved Prof. Dr. Markus Ludwig's proposal "Metal Trade, Empires, and War: New Data and Methods in Early Economic History." The project investigates economic and political interdependencies in the Bronze Age and develops data-driven methods to analyze trade networks, conflicts, and state-building processes.

Research staff from the Institute of Economics participated in this year's conference of the Verein für Socialpolitik in Cologne and held presentations on interesting topics.

In the winter semester 2025/2026, the Institute of Economics will offer three master's seminars: Climate Finance, Culture Changes, and Statistical Learning in Economics. The registration will start on 22.09.2025.

Felix Rösel has published a new article in the journal FinanzArchiv. The study, based on mayors dismissed by the Nazis and reinstated by the Allies after World War II, shows that fiscal policy decisions are more strongly influenced by political elites than by geographical or demographic factors.

On Monday, June 2, 2025, our event series "Braunschweig Seminar on Economics, Politics & Practice" took place at the Haus der Wissenschaft (House of Science), featuring Prof. Dr. Mario Larch as the speaker. It was a successful evening with discussions, pleasant conversations, and delicious snacks.
