HZI and BRICS scientist is “Highly-cited Researcher”

Alice McHardy honored as most-cited researcher in her field

The list of “Highly-cited researchers” is published annually by Clarivate Analytics to honor scientists who have made a particularly significant impact in their fields. Bioinformatician Prof Alice McHardy was recognized for her scientific publications in the past year. In total, the list of “Highly-cited researchers” comprises around 7,100 researchers worldwide

Bioinformatician Prof Alice McHardy heads the department “Computational Biology for Infection Research” at BRICS (Braunschweig Integrated Center of Systems Biology). The Department of “Computational Biology for Infection Research” studies the human microbiome, viral and bacterial pathogens, and human cell lineages within individual patients by analysis of large-scale biological and epidemiological data sets with computational techniques. Focusing on high throughput meta’omics, population genomic and single cell sequencing data, the group produces testable hypotheses, such as sets of key sites or relevant genes associated with the presence of a disease, of antibiotic resistance or pathogenic evasion of immune defense. The scientists interact with experimental collaborators to verify their findings and to promote their translation into medical treatment or diagnosis procedures. To achieve its research goals, the department also develops novel algorithms and software.
