Students will acquire knowledge in the field of H₂ production, storage, transport and utilisation. Upon completion of the lecture, tutorial and laboratory/escape room session, students will be able to identify the hydrogen value chain – from production through to storage and transport – as well as various potential applications, and describe the general mechanisms involved. Furthermore, students will be able to explain different types of electrolysers (including their manufacture) and to identify and describe storage and transport technologies (particularly with regard to hydrogen and its derivatives). In terms of application areas, students can explain and discuss key properties and requirements in the industrial and building sectors. More broadly, students can discuss and reflect on the use of hydrogen across different sectors (mobile and stationary applications). In the laboratory, students learn to operate various types of fuel cells and systematically analyse their performance. The focus here is on evaluating fuel cell performance as a function of various operating parameters. Students are able to independently identify faults in fuel cell systems and propose solutions. Furthermore, students are able to safely handle the connections and joints for reactant supply, as well as explain the safe handling of hydrogen in general.
