Objective of the Research Project
The project intensively dealt with the processes of sludge treatment and the energy demand of the various treatment steps. First, suitable basic calculation models for the processes thickening, digestion and dewatering were investigated, which were then used for the development of more advanced models. Special importance was given to the choice of the used parameters, which were to be as simple as possible. The models were then evaluated, implemented in simulation programs (e.g. SIMBA) and tested in real life. Existing simulation models, such as SIMBA, so far concentrated on the wastewater treatment processes and were now extended for the processes of sludge treatment with special consideration to energy demand. The final objective was to develop a suitable simulation tool, which gives designers and operators the possibility to compare the results and effects of various treatment options already in an early planning phase (Survey, German only).
