The Institute for High Frequency Technology at the Technical University of Braunschweig was founded in 1960 at what was then the Technical University of Braunschweig. It emerged from the Institute for Communications Engineering. Its founding father was Prof. Dr.-Ing. Hans-Georg Unger, an internationally renowned and highly respected scientist.
His areas of expertise were electromagnetic theory, microwave technology, and optical communications engineering.
