Qualification goals

Werkstofftechnolgie 2

Upon completion of this module, students will have mastered the theoretical fundamentals for the use of materials typical in mechanical engineering in the circular economy. With the knowledge they have acquired, they will be able to evaluate and apply manufacturing processes. In addition, students will be able to optimize manufacturing processes from a technological and environmental perspective and compare conventional processes with environmentally friendly ones.

Inhalte

Deepening of fundamentals and applications with consideration of the circular economy for materials with a focus on the following topics:

  • Emissions reduction
  • Sustainable and conventional material extraction
  • Reuse of materials
  • Resource efficiency through composite materials
  • Application in industry

Emissions reduction:

  • REX methods (reduce, reuse, repurpose, repair, remanufacture, recycle, and recover)
  • Classic and numerical process optimization (Lean Six Sigma, optimization using artificial intelligence (AI))
  • Life cycle analysis

Sustainable and conventional material extraction:

  • Innovative and climate-friendly processes for metal extraction (including green steel, magnesium extrusion casting)
  • Plastics and other non-metals

Reuse of materials:

  • Plastics (thermoplastics, elastomers, duromers)
  • Light metals (aluminum, titanium, magnesium)

Resource efficiency through composite materials:

  • Fiber composites and sandwich composites
  • Coatings

Industrial applications:

  • Electromobility
  • Packaging industry
