Optimized Production Processes to Reduce the CO2 Footprint in the Die Casting Process with Secondary Aluminium

About the project

Rising energy and raw material prices as well as the growth of international competition mean that internal processes must be made significantly more efficient in terms of resource and energy requirements. In addition to these economic aspects, the ecological aspects, such as the greenhouse gases emitted, are increasingly coming into focus, especially in the current period. Due to current legal regulations on a national and international level, the ecological aspects now represent an important basis for strategic, entrepreneurial decisions.  In today's world, no company can ignore the consideration of CO2 equivalents if it wants to hold its own on the global market.

The objective of the project can be divided into four main points:

  • Development of a life cycle analysis model that can be used by companies in this industry.
  • Process optimization through artificial intelligence
  • Material characterization for recycling secondary aluminium
  • Development of suitable hydrogen burners for use in foundries

In order to ensure a high level of practical relevance, an intensive exchange between science and industry is sought in the form of project-accompanying committees. The cooperation ranges from participation in committee meetings to active collaboration on project topics or the provision of test environments for the prototypes developed in the project.
