Desert plants inspire with their bizarre growth forms and are considered survival artists in arid conditions. For these reasons, succulents are popular visual objects to demonstrate adaptations to extreme habitats. The pupils discover the adaptations that enable succulents to withstand extreme heat, lack of water and hot winds. But cacti are not the only succulents. There are many other succulent families. Pupils learn what convergence means and how it is that plants on continents far away from each other are nevertheless very similar.
