The diversity of plants’ water use strategies makes forests resilient to extreme drought

A drought in the rainforest? - difficult to imagine, but certainly a realistic scenario. To find out how trees behave during such a dry phase, one of the largest experiments of its kind took place in 2019 in Biosphere 2, Arizona, USA, under the leadership of Prof. Christiane Werner, Uni Freiburg. Junior research group leader Dr. Matthias Beyer from IGÖ led the 'water group' in this experiment.
