Personnel changes in the IGÖ in the winter semester 2023/24

[Institut für Geoökologie, Abteilung USA]

With the start of the coming winter semester, there will be personnel changes at the Institute of Geoecology (IGÖ), which we would like to briefly inform you about at this point:

Retirement Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Durner
Prof. Durner will leave his active service as a university lecturer at the TU Braunschweig on 01.10.2023 and go into professional retirement. Since taking up his post in 2001, Mr Durner has headed the Soil Science and Soil Physics working group at the IGÖ.
On behalf of the Institute, we thank Mr Durner for his various activities for the benefit of the IGÖ, including as Dean of Faculty 3 and as Vice-President of the TU Braunschweig for Studies and Teaching. We wish Mr Durner all the best for the coming years.

New professorship in soil sciences
Prof. Dr. Magdalena Sut-Lohmann will take up her post as Professor of Soil Sciences at TU Braunschweig in the winter semester 2023/24. Ms Sut-Lohmann is moving from BTU Cottbus to TU Braunschweig. From the beginning of the winter semester, she will be responsible for the teaching of soil science and will gradually build up her research area at the IGÖ. We are looking forward to our new colleague and wish her a good start in Braunschweig.

Prof. Dr Boris Schröder-Esselbach moves to TU Berlin
Prof. Schröder-Esselbach has accepted a professorship in plant ecology at the TU Berlin for the winter semester 2023/24. With this, Mr Schröder-Esselbach will leave the IGÖ after a good 10 years as a university lecturer. We are sad about the loss, but wish him a good start in his new job in Berlin. The working group Landscape Ecology and Environmental Systems Analysis will be temporarily led by Prof. Dr. Frank Suhling until the position is filled. This means that the courses offered by the working group will be able to continue as planned in the coming semesters.

We wish all students and staff a good start to the winter semester 2023/24.
