Field exercise Experimental Boundary Layer Meteorology

[Institut für Geoökologie, Abteilung Klimatologie]

From August 25 to 29, 2025, the first field exercise for the Experimental Boundary Layer Meteorology II course in the Environmental Meteorology program took place. The course was led by the working groups Climatology and Environmental Meteorology (Stephan Weber) and Land-Atmosphere Interactions (Torsten Sachs) from the Institute of Geoecology and the Institute of Flight Guidance (Astrid Lampert). The regional Earth system observatory TERENO-Nordost in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania was chosen as the location for the various measurements, including drone flights to measure meteorological vertical profiles and chamber measurements to determine the surface-atmosphere exchange of CO2. The field work was accompanied by theoretical units in the “lecture hall”. The weather and measurement technology cooperated, enabling interesting data to be obtained for the analysis of various boundary layer processes.
