Archiving, publishing and sharing of research data

Archiving, publishing and sharing of research data

Research data are the basis of scientific knowledge. Shared research data can evoke further research, generate new findings and accelerate research. However, shared data is not always equivalent to open data. First and foremost, data must be generated, described and archived in a meaningfully and sustainable manner.

Good reasons for sharing research data

- Fulfill third-party requirements (university, third-party funders, publishers)

- Increase own visibility, citability and reproducibility

- Enabling reuse

- Ensure knowledge preservation

- Prevent data loss

- Facilitate collaboration

- Overall social benefit of open data
