Mastering coincidences and solving problems of optimisation:

How much must banks set aside in order not to jeopardise their customers’ capital investments? How can an internationally operating company protect itself against currency fluctuations? What network capacities should an internet provider have? These are questions that you deal with as a mathematician in finance and industry. Business mathematics has been dealing with problems from the fields of business and economics for about 20 years.

What is special about TU Braunschweig?

Financial mathematics is a comparatively new and rapidly expanding discipline where mathematical concepts are developed to solve the many new problems in the field of finance. Without mathematical analysis, modern financial transactions and products would not be possible.

Combining theory and practice in the best possible way

Mathematics in finance and industry applies the findings of mathematics to the practical needs of finance and economics with the help of computer-oriented methods.

From a mathematical point of view, it is about problems of optimisation on the one hand, and the control of random events and processes on the other. Therefore, in this degree programme you deal in particular with mathematical optimisation, stochastics and numerical analysis.

You will receive a broad scientific education in the fundamentals and methods of mathematics, information science and economics. You will also acquire comprehensive knowledge in the areas of applied mathematical and quantitative economics.

Courses from the field of computer science are also integrated into the degree programme: In computer practicals and programming courses, you will acquire knowledge that will enable you to solve complex problems using a computer.
