Excursion to Alstom Braunschweig

14 April 2026, 09:45 - 15:00 [Career Service und Alumni, International Career Service]

Take a look behind the scenes at Alstom Braunschweig and find out more about modern railway technology and the career opportunities within the company.

Alstom is a world-leading provider of sustainable mobility solutions. The company develops and manufactures a wide range of modern transport systems – from high-speed trains, metros and trams to signalling systems, infrastructure, digital mobility solutions and comprehensive service and maintenance services. With around 86,000 employees worldwide, Alstom works every day to connect cities and regions more efficiently, reduce emissions and set new technological standards in rail transport.

Alstom has four plants/sites in the Braunschweig-Salzgitter region, covering the entire spectrum of the rail sector:

  • the Salzgitter plant develops and manufactures state-of-the-art trains
  • the Braunschweig site on Schwarzkopfstrasse provides maintenance and servicing for trains
  • the Braunschweig-Rautheim site operates a warehouse and logistics centre for signal box technology
  • the Braunschweig engineering site develops the most advanced signal box technology in Germany and implements the associated projects

This innovative technology for controlling rail traffic is developed here centrally on the ARTmax site, which employs around 320 people. The technology includes signal boxes for private and industrial railways as well as for the Deutsche Bahn rail network – the largest and busiest rail network in the European Union.

During the excursion, you will gain a comprehensive insight into on-site operations as well as the practical and theoretical fundamentals of modern railway technology. The day begins with a welcome and an introduction to Alstom and the Braunschweig site. This is followed by a specialist presentation on control and safety technology, after which you will have the opportunity to explore various test environments during a tour of the laboratory. After a joint lunch break, we will focus on the role of hardware and software in railway operations and illustrate how they work through practical demonstrations. Following a tour of the site, a further specialist presentation will summarise the topics covered and provide an outlook on future developments in railway technology.

Finally, you’ll have the chance to ask questions about entry-level opportunities and career prospects at Alstom during a Q&A session.
