Bachelor's programme in Civil Engineering
The Bachelor's programme in Civil Engineering is a basic education. Graduates thus acquire a good foundation and a wide range of insights for entry into professional life or further Master's programme.
At the beginning of the programme, we teach you the fundamentals of science and engineering. Subsequently, you will gain in-depth insights into engineering fields such as Construction Engineering, Water and Environment, Traffic and Infrastructure as well as Computational Engineering. In the overarching part of your Bachelor's degree, you will also acquire key qualifications such as English, general business administration, and presentation techniques.
The Bachelor's programme in Civil Engineering includes the following areas:
Basics of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, this area includes, among others, the modules Engineering Mathematics, Technical Mechanics and Hydromechanics.
Basics of Engineering includes, among others, the modules Construction Design, Building Materials Science, Construction Economics/Construction Operations, Structural Analysis, Geotechnics
Engineering Specialisaion in the areas of Construction Engineering, Water and Environment, Traffic and Infrastructure, Computational Engineering
Multidisciplinary Subjects, including courses such as English, Business Administration for Engineers, key qualifications
The study plan can be found in the examination regulations and in the explanations of the study program. The timetable is available on our website before the beginning of each semester. The courses are usually held annually.
The General Part of the Examination Regulations (APO) applies to all Bachelor's and Master's degree programs at the TU Braunschweig. Supplementary regulations for the study program are laid down in the Special Part of the Examination Regulations (BPO). The corresponding module guide book (MHB) contains the description of the modules. We have summarized the most important regulations for you in our explanations of the Bachelor's degree program. All relevant documents can be found here:
Civil Engineers regularly apply knowledge from the fields of business administration, languages (especially English), programming as well as presentation and interdisciplinary knowledge in their professional practice. In the key qualifications within the Bachelor's programme you will learn many of these skills - some in compulsory courses, some you can choose freely from a wide range. Details can be found in the documents already mentioned in the downloads.
With the Bachelor's thesis as the conclusion of your studies, you demonstrate that you are able to independently work on a topic from the field of Civil Engineering according to scientific methods and on time. In doing so, you demonstrate that you can apply the knowledge acquired in the Bachelor's programme in terms of both form and content and have thus acquired the foundations for the Master's programme.
For information on admission to the Bachelor's thesis, registration and choice of topic, as well as issue, processing and submission, please refer to the explanations on the course of study. These can be found in Stud.IP in the study group Civil Engineering or here.
In order to establish practical relevance right from the start, you need a preliminary internship lasting eight weeks for the Bachelor's programme in Civil Engineering. The internship guidelines provide further details. Proof of the completed internship must be submitted at the latest when registering for the Bachelor's thesis. However, it is strongly recommended to complete all or part of the internship prior to graduation.
