Alumni Talks

Save the date! Alumni*ae in the Spotlight with Dr. Carola Reimann

Title: Public Health in Bewegung: Prävention, Förderung und Kompetenz für ein leistungsfähiges Gesundheitssystem (Public Health in Motion: Prevention, Promotion, and Competence for an Effective Health System)

Brief description of the lecture:

What does public health have to do with my studies, my career, and social justice? Dr. Carola Reimann, Chair of the Board of the AOK Federal Association and an alumna of TU Braunschweig, explores precisely this question in her lecture. She demonstrates how important health promotion, prevention, and health literacy are for an effective and efficient healthcare system and the solidarity-based statutory health insurance system—and why this is a key task for the coming decades.

Drawing on her own career—from her studies and doctorate in Braunschweig through many years in health policy to the top of a major social insurance provider—she highlights the skills that are in demand today.

For students, early-career researchers, and anyone interested, the lecture opens up concrete perspectives: Where can I make an impact later on with my degree in public health, engineering, natural sciences, or social sciences? How can scientific curiosity, social responsibility, and professional success be combined? Drawing on experiences from her time as a student at the Technical University of Braunschweig and current research topics, the lecture invites attendees to help shape health as a socially and politically significant field.

Short biography:

Dr. Carola Reimann has been Chair of the Board of the AOK Federal Association since 2022, representing the interests of the AOK community and its 27 million insured members.

After studying biotechnology at the Technical University of Braunschweig, she earned her doctorate and worked as a consultant in the field of public health as well as a project manager for medical marketing.

From 2000 to 2017, she served as a member of the German Bundestag for Braunschweig, including as Chair of the Health Committee and as the health policy spokesperson for the SPD parliamentary group.

She subsequently assumed the office of Minister for Social Affairs, Health, and Equality of the State of Lower Saxony.

In all her roles, she advocates for a solidarity-based, future-proof healthcare system that consistently strengthens prevention, health promotion, and health literacy while reducing social inequalities.
